Masryef Advisory launches social enterprise platform Amalfya focusing on projects in Africa

Kuala Lumpur-based Shariah advisory firm Masryef Advisory has formally launched Amalfya, a social enterprise platform with a renewed focus on African projects. The platform is currently working with local partners to construct wells in Tanzania, Malawi and Burkina Faso, a spokesperson from Amalfya told ISFI.

In addition to water sanitation projects, the social enterprise platform is working on food security initiatives. Currently ongoing is its Qurban campaign in Tanzania and Malawi.

“Amalfya operates directly in Tanzania and Malawi, targeting areas that suffer from water scarcity, malnutrition and poverty…

“We believe that our reporting technology will enable donors to stay informed about their donation impact,” the spokesperson explained.

The construction of the wells is expected to reduce the spread of diseases associated with contaminated water sources as well as reduce the commute time for local communities to access clean water. Amalfya estimates that in some regions, the commute to clean water sources can take up to two hours.

According to UNICEF [United Nations Children’s Fund], Eastern and Southern Africa rank the lowest in access to basic water services with 47% of the population having no access to basic drinking water. Tanzania, notably, is the third-highest burden country in the region with 24 million people being impacted.

In a bid to scale its impact and reach, Amalfya has partnered with digital estate planning platform Pewarisan and social enterprise platform Enoku.

As part of its collaboration, Pewarisan, which received an undisclosed investment amount from the RM45 million (US$9.74 million) FWD Group-backed TIM Ventures Fund from Artem Ventures last year, allows its users to pledge a portion of their wealth to Amalfya’s social impact causes.

With a focus on empowering disabled persons, Enoku’s partnership with Amalfya will see the latter facilitate the participation of disabled persons among its network of fintech companies.

Beginning its operations in Malaysia, Amalfya assisted roughly 85 households affected by floods last year by supplying flood cleaning kits for water tanks for flood victims nationwide, the spokesperson explained.
