Central Bank of the UAE meets with CEOs of UAE banks to discuss future initiatives for banking sector with focus on advancing green finance

UAE: The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has met with CEOs of UAE banks to discuss priorities and future initiatives for the banking sector with a focus on advancing green finance in the financial sector, according to an official statement. Governor of the CBUAE Khaled Mohamed Balama highlighted the important role of UAE banks in developing and implementing green and sustainable finance plans as well as aligning with the sector-wide sustainability objectives in support of the initiatives during the ‘Year of Sustainability’ and the UAE’s hosting of COP28 (2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference).

Other topics discussed in the meeting include the progress and rollout of the domestic card scheme and instant payment platform planned in 2023, financial consumer protection, market conduct, financial crime supervision in the banking sector and the Emirates Interbank Offered Rate.
